Branch Chain Amino Acids

If you are apart of the fitness world in some way you have probably hear about BCAAs. Probably also have heard that you NEED to take them. However do you know why they are important? Here are a couple points: Our bodies do not produce branch chain amino acids, meaning the only way we can get these is through our diets. Okay I know you asking yourself this now, well if we don’t produce them do we really need them? Short answer YES! They cause protein synthesisWhat is that? Protein synthesis does everything from helping to build structures to supporting your immune system. On top of that they also promote glycogen sparing to occur during training… Again English please? Glycogen sparing is the use of non-carbohydrates as a source of energy during exercise so that the depletion of muscle glycogen stores is delayed. (Allowing you to train longer!) BCAAs also increase the uptake of glucose after training as well aiding in recovery. This is all just for the BCAAs keep scrolling to learn more about essential amino acids!

Essential Amino Acids

So BCAAs do a lot… Why are essential amino acids important? Same as BCAAs, EAAs cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained through diet. The difference between BCAAs and EAAs is that BCAAs have a chain branching off to one side of its molecular structure. EAAs do a lot of the same thing promoting protein synthesis.  Here is some facts about each of the EAAs included in Max Perform. Phenylalanine: Phenylalanine is a precursor for the neurotransmitters tyrosinedopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine. It plays an integral role in the structure and function of proteins and enzymes and the production of other amino acids Lysine: Plays major roles in protein synthesis, hormone and enzyme production and the absorption of calcium. It’s also important for energy production, immune function and the production of collagen and elastin. Tyrosine: It can improve cognitive function during exposure stress! L-Aspartic Acid: Helps aide in immune function!

Max Perform Component Breakdown

BCAAs are composed of leucine, isoleucine, and valine, and are considered essential in that they must be obtained from diet. Supplementation causes increased protein synthesis, reduced Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) by preventing an influx of serotonin, and causes glycogen sparing during training, and increased glucose uptake after training.

Acetyl L-carnitine is an acetylated form of carnitine, which is broken down and used in the process of transporting fatty acids to the mitochondria for use as fuel. It also has a secondary, dose-dependent ability to increase lactate clearance.

Caffeine is the most commonly used and studied over-the-counter stimulant. It works by antagonizing the adenosine receptors, there by causing increased alertness and wakefulness. This inhibition can also influence the dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine, and adrenaline systems, thereby reducing RPE (rate of perceived exertion). While dosing ranges in studies showing an ergogenic effect can range up to 6mg/kg, many individual variances exits, lending itself to justifying a lower dose per serving in Max Perform.

An organic compound that is found throughout animal tissue, it is often confused as being an amino acid, which it is not. Studies have shown benefits when combined w/ BCAAS to alter DOMS, and in isolation has anti-oxidant like effects without blunting exercise-induced oxidative adaptations.

  7. Pete Nellis

The reason I like Max Perform Grape flavor is because I am able to get a pre-workout caffeine boost and a little bit of energy without having all the tingles and all the side effects if most pre-workouts on the market and even if I need something mid-day work it’s the perfect amount of BCAAs and Caffeine to get my thorugh the day

  8. Alex Parker (verified owner)

I absolutely love Max Perform Grape. I drink the regular version before and during my AM workouts and the caffeine free version before and during my PM workouts. Besides getting the added physical benefits from drinking BCAAs and EAAs during workouts, the caffeine and sweetness helps increase energy and fluid intake.

I often drink the caffeine free version during my rest days because they taste so good and the grape flavouring is a nice change from water.

Max Perform is 100% my all-time favorite pre-workout product. Before CrossFit, I did a lot of powerlifting and exercising on my own. Because I wasn’t competing in any sports, I wasn’t being drug tested, so I had the freedom to try out a lot of different pre-workouts. I learned that I am really sensitive to caffeine, which most pre-w/o’s have over 120mg+ per serving. I also crashed a lot after training when I would take such pre-workouts or energy drinks. I’ve been using Max Perform for about 3 years now and, still to this day, nothing else compares. It gives me the sustained energy I need to get through a 2-3 hour training session and feel GREAT afterwards. AND it only has 90mg of caffeine per serving. I love the Grape, it’s my favorite flavor! It’s sweet but not too sweet…and its tangy, but not too tangy! Perfect combo. Max Perform doesn’t carry any unnecessary filler either. You get exactly what’s on the label! Lastly, and probably most importantly, because I am a competitor in CrossFit and get tested, N3L is NSF certified, which means they go the extra step to make sure their products meet strict standards and procedure for our health and safety.

This is exactly what I look for in a pre-workout. The grape flavour is amazing, the label is easy to read, the ingredients are comprised of substances I understand, and most importantly, it’s a clean product. As a CrossFit athlete, ensuring I can take a pre-workout that is free of banned substances is always a top priority.
